Studebaker - From 1913 to 1927

Model SA 25 Four – Model AA 35 Four – Model E Six – All started late 1912.
Model SC Four – Model EB Six – Model AA was dropped. No start or end date was found.
Model SD Four – Model EC Six – No start date is found, these models most likely ended when the new models were released in June of 1915 for the 1916 year.
Model SF Four – Model ED Six – Started June of 1915 – After about 25,000 cars were manufactured, changes were made. The initial cars are considered Series 16, after the changes were made the cars were considered Series 17. Still later more changes are made and these are considered Series 18 (see 1917).
Model SF Four – Model ED Six – These models were continuation of the 1916 models with some changes and were designated Series 18. The exact time the series changed to 18 is not known. Production of these models most likely ended in October.
Light Four Model SH – Special Six Model EH – Big Six Model EG – This is a continuation of the 1918 models. Production of the Light Four SH model likely ended in May of 1920 when the new Light Six EJ Model is released.
Light Six Model EJ – Special Six Model EH – Big Six Model EG – The Light Four series has ended and is replaced with a new car called the Light Six in April of 1920. The other two models carry over from 1919.
Light Six Model EJ – Special Six Model EH – Big Six Model EG – All three models are carried over from 1920.
Light Six Model EJ – Special Six Model EL – Big Six Model EK – Models for the Special and Big Six changed, but the exact introduction date is unknown.
Light Six Model EM – Special Six Model EL – Big Six Model EK – The Light Six Model changed from EJ to EM and the Special Six and Big Six Models were carried over from 1922. The exact start date for the Light Six Model EM is unknown.
Light Six Model EM – Special Six Model EL – Big Six Model EK – All these models ended production near mid-year of 1924 as the new models for 1925 are introduced in September of this year. This is the final year of production for the Light Six Series. A new model the Standard Six is being released.
Standard Six Model ER – Special Six Model EQ – Big Six Model EP – All of these models were released at the same time, September of 1924. The Standard Six Series is new.
Standard Six Model ER – Special Six Model EQ – Big Six Model EP – Big Six Model ES – The Big Six Model ES is released in July of this year and starts the use of the President name. The Big Six ES is built on two wheel bases, cars being built on the longer of the two are generally referred to as Presidents, where those built on the shorter of the two are regarded as just Big Six models. It is likely, but uncertain if this ended the production of the Big Six Model EP. The Standard Six Model ER will end production at mid-year 1926 as the Standard Six Model EU for 1927 is released. This new model EU is destined to be renamed Dictator. The Special Six Series will end in December of 1926 as the Big Six EW Model replaces this slot in the line-up, destined then to be renamed the Commander.
Standard Six Model EU – Big Six Model EW – Big Six Model ES – Things get a little confusing this year. First the Standards Six Model EU starts production in July of 1926. Then in mid-summer of 1927 is renamed to Dictator Model EU. Secondly, in January of 1927 the Big Six Model EW is released and renamed the Commander Model EW in April of 1927. The Big Six Model ES continue in production for 1927 with the short wheel base models being called Big Sixes and the longer wheel base models being called Presidents. The real President, will not come into existence until the straight eight is introduced.
Dictator Model GE – Commander Model GB – Commander GH – President Model – FA – President Model FB – The Dictator Model GE starts in late 1927 and is designated “First Design”. They look like the 27 EU’s. The “Second Design” were fazed in by body style over a period of time until the “Third Design” is released in mid-year. The “Third Design” Model GE’s are generally referred to as 1929 models. The Commander Model GB ended as the Commander Model GH started in mid-year, the model GH ended production at the end of 1928. The President Model FA Eight, started January of 1928, while the Model FB was introduced mid-year. However, the Model FA was also updated with a different body and engine at mid-year. This significant change without changing the model designation has created many a problem for the restorer.
Dictator Model GE – Commander Model GJ Six – Commander Model FD Eight – President Model FE Eight – President Model FH Eight – The Dictator is a continuation of the 1928 GE model, the “Third Design”. The Commander Model GJ Six started in January of 1929. The new Commander Model FD was also introduced in January of 1929. The President Model FE 135 inch wheelbase and the President Model FH 125 inch wheelbase started in January of 1929 and ended June of 1930.

| Model year production for the newly released Light Six EJ by serial number reported by Fox indicate April 1920 – May 1921 production of 15,000 cars, however Cannon (#9) stated only 7,000 EJ were made in 1920. Big Six serial number production covering both 1920 and 1921 divided equally would be 9,684. Adding the three blue highlighted numbers, 1920 model production may have been 49,220. | |||||||||||

| Model year production for all models by serial number is 98,049. If the calendar year production is correct, there just are not enough serial numbers assigned to 1923. However, in 1924 there are more serial numbers assigned then calendar year production. This would lead me to believe that some of the serial number breaks between 1924 and 1925 are off. | |||||||||||

Model year production for all models by serial number is 147,492. If the calendar year production is correct, there are to many serial numbers assigned to 1924. However, in 1923 there were less serial numbers assigned then calendar year production. This would lead me to believe that the some of the serial number breaks between 1923 and 1924 are off. | |||||||||||
