For Sale – Wanted

For Sale:

1962 Lark Convertible, with a “Skybolt Six” making 112 horsepower and 154 foot-pounds of torque & the Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission,  “Flight-O-Matic”.  This car is in Regal trim (not Daytona).

The car is solid, mostly rust free, with the normal rust problems on both sides (lower front fenders near the doors).

Under side has some surface rust, but the hog troughs and rocker panels are solid and the entire floor pan and all sections of the trunk are good and solid.  See the photo’s right and left.

The paint shows well, but has several areas of patina.  Again see the photo’s for more details.  I found one small dent in the center of the trunk near the trunk latch.  The car has the normal rubs, scratch, paint chips of a car with paint that was last done in 1987.

The chrome is above average and I only found one small dent in the beltline trim.  The bumpers have some light scratches upon close examination, but look great from 20 feet.  The car underwent a frame on restoration in 1987 when it was painted and much of the trim was replaced with NOS stuff from Newman & Altman.  (I did not photograph all four pages, only the top one to confirm the date, the next three pages listed all the trim, new bumpers and etc.  that was purchased, note the date 01-27-87).

The interior is by far the best part of the car.  Go to the  bottom of this page to view a slide show of the interior.  The carpet is in excellent shape as are the door panels, seats, and dash pad.  The top is also in good condition with no stains, folds, cuts, or tears.  The tires are Coker’s (at least three of them).  Their date code is 1996.  The fourth tire (passenger side rear) is slightly older and does not match the other three, the spare is also not a match.  The tread is good and there are no cracks in the sidewalls.  Mostly OK to drive short distances to car shows, but really need to be replaced before any long length car tour is attempted (my opinion).  Many more photo’s and information about recent repairs available to serious buyer.  Feel free to contact me at 815 985-2633.  If I don’t answer leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Past know history:

We only know that the owner before Dennis was Steven L Musser and there is plenty of evidence that he purchased the car in Indiana sometime in 1973.  We can see the odometer reading was 83875 on Nov. 1973 and then 18 years later in July of 1991 the odometer was 98131.  14 years after that first OD reading and 4 years before the next OD reading mentioned, a “Remanufactured Engine” was installed (1987), from the data present that might have been around OD  reading 95000.  Mr. Musser sold this car to Dennis sometime in 2005, so Mr. Musser owned the car for 32 years.  The current odometer is 00282, so the I expect the number of miles put on the new engine woud currently be about 5,000.  Apparently Dennis put very few miles on this car during the twenty years he has owned it.  I could not find odometer reading recorded when Dennis purchased the car in 2005.

The side glass and convertible rear window are very good.  The windshield has scrapes on both sides caused by wornout windshield wipers on the curves portion of the windshield.  None of this is in the vision line while driving.  See the photo’s
